House - Nxumalo

NXUMALO – This modern, spacious house in the heart of Waterfall Country Estate, was an engineering challenge to built, as half of the upper level was suspended from the roof slab.

Entering the front door, the floating staircase was built from steel and oak and the solid piece of glass from the ground floor to the upper level forms a nice focus point.

The ground floor consists of a formal Lounge, a bar area and a patio, with a TV room next to it. A big open plan Dining Room is next to the modern Kitchen with its granite island in the centre of the room. The vein of the granite runs through the doors and the drawers give you the impression that it’s a solid piece of granite.

The 1st floor consists of a Study with a guest Bedroom next to it.

Leaving the staircase you pass the two kid’s Bedrooms and on the left is the off-shutter wall from where the 1st floor is suspended from the roof.

The Master bedroom sits on the far side of the passage and boasts a walk-in closet and a luxurious ensuite bathroom. The room also walks out on a big rooftop garden that separates the open patio from the other rooms.

This house is an excellent example of modern engineering.

House - Gordhan

GORDHAN On entering the house, you cannot miss the off shutter concrete wall on your righthand side, with a cantilever crinkle cut off shutter concrete staircase leading up to the second story.

On your left you have a warm sun-filled open Lounge with a purpose-built fireplace, separating the Lounge from the Dining room.

The white kitchen cupboards stand out from the earthy warm natural look of the off-shutter ceiling with its cement floors. Making a bold statement is the glass and steel (enclosed) wine cellar with a bar counter behind it.

The rest of the lower level is the heart of the house with a TV room and a big patio with an indoor BBQ that makes entertaining guests a pleasure. The sliding doors open up almost completely and leads to the outside with the pool and a lush green lawn as the backdrop of the stand.

The 1st floor consists of the Master Bedroom and two children’s Bedrooms, all of them ensuite. The Master Bedroom also boasts a walk-in closet, and all the Bedrooms walk out to an open plan Pyjama Lounge.

Two of the rooms lead onto a big patio / balcony that overlook the green belt and here you can enjoy a sundowner or watch the rain from the enclosed patio.

This house is an excellent example of rustic elegance.

House - Best

BEST – Our client’s house is a unique and modern architectural masterpiece. The client bought an old run-down house and decided to renovate it.

On the ground floor the house consists of a triple garage, entering into the open plan kitchen, which is linked to the dining room, adjacent to the braai, bar and entertainment area.
The bar area is adorned with a seven-ton solid granite that was installed by crane, adding to the grandeur of the space.

House - Van der Merwe

VAN DER MERWE – This house is situated in Southdowns Estate, Irene.

The house was design by Pieter Mathews & Associates. The request was for a simplistic house with natural materials.

All colours had to match, working with pine and meranti and both of the materials had to have an oldish-grey, weathered look to it, which was challenging.

All lights fittings, closet and cupboard handles, locks, hinges, etc. were all purposely been made mat black to blend well with the grey walls.

It is a spacious house consisting of four Bedrooms, a Study and two entertainment areas of which one walks out to the pool.

This house is an excellent example of simplicity, yet naturally modern.

House - Von Wielligh

VON WIELLIGH – The decision to embark on phase two on the renovation of their home, where the Von Wielligh family have lived in for several years, took an unexpected turn for the family.

“We love living here and had decided to improve the house in two phases” says the home owner. “But when we began investigating the second stage of the refurbishment, we realised that it would be more effective (for budgetary and practical reasons) to demolish the existing house and rebuild completely.”

They moved out and 18 months later, returned to a magnificent new home in the quiet street, overlooking a picturesque valley.

The entertainment area have 180 degree views over the garden.

The Von Wielligh’s home featured in  SA Home Owner magazine in September 2017.
